On this day 14 years ago, India lifted the inaugural Twenty20 World Cup after beating Pakistan by five runs in the final at the Wanderers in Johannesburg. Led by MS Dhoni, this was India’s first win in an international limited-overs tournament since they were victorious in the World Cup in 1983. The star performers included Gautam Gambhir, who smashed 75 off 54 deliveries, and Rohit Sharma, who dragged India to the competitive total of 157 with his 30 off 16 balls. Misbah-Ul-Haq fell short with the bat, being dismissed in the final over six runs short of victory.
