Katherine Brunt was at her miserly best as England set out to defend a below-par 241 in the first edition of their five-match ODI series. The seasoned pacer brought her wealth of experience to the fore, delivering four maidens in a row before returning to the attack and striking immediately to puncture New Zealand’s hopes.
England sorely missed the experienced duo of Brunt and Knight when both sat out injured during the second T20I in Hove, won by New Zealand earlier in the tour.
