On this day two years ago, Kyle Abbott brought the County Championship to a halt with his ridiculous figures of 9-40 against Somerset. Playing for Hampshire, the South African pacer was clearly the chief protagonist in bowling the visitors out for 142. The game would only get better for Abbott, who went on to take the best first-class figures since Jim Laker in 1956, claiming 8-46 in the second innings and the unbelievable match figures of 17-86. Laker’s record still stands at 19-90.
