England Women got off to a propitious start as they set out to defend 241 against New Zealand Women in the ODI series opener at Bristol. Nat Sciver got rid of openers Lauren Down and Suzie Bates cheaply, leaving New Zealand tottering in what is an uphill chase. While Bates closed the bat face way too early to perish nicking in the cordon, Down feathered one behind to Amy Jones. Kate Cross has added insult to the Blackcaps’ injury by dealing a couple of telling blows.
