Sam Robson and Mark Stoneman, Middlesex’s opening pair who have both featured in Test cricket for England in the past, broke the first-wicket record partnership for their county on day one against Sussex in Division Three of the County Championship. The two took establishing a platform to another level, putting on 376 together on a chastening day in the field for the struggling home side. Stoneman was eventually gone for 174, but Robson remains unbeaten on 192 as Middlesex finished the day 400-2.
