Having looked innocuously untroubled for the majority of his 31 runs against India at the Oval, Dawid Malan was dismissed by the excellent rhythm of Umesh Yadav, who claimed Malan as his third scalp on his return to the India side for the fourth Test. It no doubt spoiled Malan’s birthday celebrations, but the 34 year-old has enjoyed a wonderful year of cricket for his country.
He has risen to the top of the T20 International World Rankings, to the pleasant surprise of many, in the process earning the highest rating of all time for a batsman in the shortest format. His success, and some huge County Championship scores, saw his re-call to England’s Test eleven from Headingley onwards.
