In what was an ignominious reality check, New Zealand hobbled to their lowest T20I score in the series opener against Bangladesh. Electing to bat first, the Blackcaps found themselves waist-deep into trouble at 9/4 before Tom Latham and Henry Nicholls scored 18 each to spare a few blushes. Mustafizur Rahman spearheaded the rout, picking three wickets while Nasum Ahmed, Shakib Al Hasan and Mohammad Saifuddin shared two spoils each as the Kiwis folded for 60. The hosts, though, have also lost both the openers early, injecting elixir into what seemed like a lopsided affair.
